One of the barriers mentioned was the corporate culture within an organization, where women are not included because of family barriers or certain values and perceptions.
From my point of view, this is a very complex problem here in Dubai. Women who are well educated often end up at home not because of the lack of opportunities or family barriers (although that might be the case to some, more so outside Dubai) but because they don't get much out of it. And I'm not talking about materialistic value, but given the effort we put in, and the kind of people we have to deal with (that's a whole other issue), we feel under appreciated. We expect more because that's the kind of life we're used to. That is why most women I know prefer to stay at home, and why one day I might choose to.

It's true.
I have friends who left the corporate world to start their own business or settle down.
They don't feel like they lost anything because they realised the workforce is more glamourised in their heads than reality.

no man is worth enough to let u quit ur job and stay home for him and to raise his children, i think women has the right to be successful and acheive her goals whether its in a career she've chosen or in a buisness she've started.
plus with the presence of the economic crises, we women should work to earn money and spend on ourselves! ;p

I read that article, pretty interesting point of view there F.B..I absolutely agree..Its also linked to the X and Y generation discussion that was going on last year...our elders were happy to get employed, with little expectations of anything especially in the beginning of their careers while our generation expects much higher standards of teamwork..convenience...benefits..potential to grow..etc. Im glad as females today we are in the empowered position to simply choose what we want to do with our lives in terms of a career or homelife with no stigma attached to either one anymore. It definitely allows us the option of branching out from one to the other as suited to each individual.
PC: thanx darl, yes i've got a packed weekend ahead! XD And its great that we have the freedom to choose where we want to take our lives, but there are women out there who still don't.. sad but true.. have a great weekend urself sweets xoxo
al7emdellah i've been blessed with parents that encourage me to study and take on challenging careers. I've always worked in organizations where they evaluate you according to your performance and not gender, i guess it's been my good luck! Sometimes it depends on luck I guess, where you end up, which company? (government/private), who your boss is? etc. There are many factors at work itself that may lead the female employee to leave and stay home. Don't forget also the fact that families here are well off so working is sometime for fun and not to support a living, which again makes the option of leaving work and staying home a favorable one. Besides, a lot of girls believe that their ultimate dream is to get married and have children and their careers stop at the point they get hitched!
