Are we too connected?

From email, to facebook, to messenger, to txting, mmsing, 3G-ing..gtalking.. And every other communication method there is out there.. When did this become necessary?

Don't take me wrong, I'm all for communication.. But when did it become so vital that we can't go an hour or so without it.

I remember a few months ago, we had to hand our cell phones in when we took the speciality exam.. And it was torture..

When did not being on the phone, become handicapping?

What was once a luxury became a necessity and is now a full blown addiction.

Is it an addiction? Or is it a way of life? Or did we make it harder to let go when we brought it into our lives?

Maybe I'm exaggerating..

What do you think?

You're so right, we brought it onto ourselves. Technology is taking over our lives I guess at a certain point one must put an end to it and only use it when necessary.

It's the world we live in.. everything is changing so fast!! you can't help but try and stay connected!.. it's the only way we can keep up...

I see what you mean, but sometimes when I travel I leave my phone in the hotel! Sometimes I really feel like I need to be on a BREAK! hehehehe, I would not mind doing it all through my break but as you said, to some it became too important like my parents when they want to check on me! My phone is always on silent or meeting! I have the quiet alone times, where I sit in my room and do nothing but breathing hehehehe!

yes we are too connected, but it's become a way of life. I like to disconnect from time to time.

Yes we're way to connected. My friends wont leave me alone sometimes.

Yesterday we had an OSCE, they were fixed stations, so they had the groups who finished the exams locked up in some rooms until all thr groups went in...cuz usually we tell our friends what the cases are as soon as we finish...the dr's realise that when they see the marks always improving from the first groups to the last.....to make a long story short...i was in the first group....and they had us locked up with no phones for 3 very long hours.....i was crawling up the walls...i was like a heroin addicts having withdrawal symptoms!

What is too connected?

Staying in touch? Spending time talking with people we like? Sharing info/news/updates every now n then?

Such addiction is okay as long as you don't give it the chance to alter your daily routine, i.e. reading a book, family gatherings, sleeping et al.

Yes we are too connected. I had this one phase where I grew entirely sick of my cellphone and would refuse to charge it for days. Bliss, but quite short-lived; I got too many complaints on my landline. =/

peony: I KNOW ME TOO! and i always get really irritating calls so early in the morning it hurts!

fourme: its just that its harder to draw the line now, don't u think?

purelyorchid: of course, i get that.. i just feel that all the connectivity can be handicapping at times too.. i mean its not all good..

ansam: i see u have ur personal space and ur "online" space all sorted out, mashalla that's good! I can't imagine ever leaving my phone unattended to.. at any time!

nyxxie: its nice that u get to disconnect from time to time x

delicately realistic: that is EXACTLY what i'm talking about.. withdrawal symptoms! its unhealthy i tell u! good luck with ur exams babe xx

a way less..etc. MI: the last book i have read (mind u, i have alot of books ready to be read) but the last book i read was probably 2 or 3 years ago.. u chose not to read, u chose to alter ur daily activities.. and this is when it gets annoying.. all the connectivity that is.. of course this doesn't apply to anyone and everyone ;) i'm sure u know what im talking about xx

manutdfanatic: oh i can never imagine doing such a thing!

This is BOUND to happen.
Connecting people ! NOKIA ..

A Saturation point will be attained when communication infinity is almost in sight.

Then we will go blind..

Well, adding my 2 cents to the story..

Too close is never too close until we see a mile in a nanometer.

connectivity is good and can be useful, but when you rely your whole life on it, it starts to become a bit of a problem. imgine one day electricity everywhere shuts off. then you'd have no pc, no way to charge your phone, etc etc... youre screwed.

here's to to taking a good break every now and then and taking off from the world... (by the way, see this, http://www.ammaro.com/2008/05/isolated-from-world.html, will shock ya!)

that actually happened in dubai once.. no electricity and no mobile networks.. for 5 hours? it was sheer terror!
