Product review: the nail patch

I have been meaning to try out the sephora nail patches for some time now, so today I sat and peeled off each and every stick-on polish patch and tried my best to make it work.

It took me 15 mins. Et voila! Granted I'm not very good at precise hand work lol I think its good for when u don't have time for a quick swing at the nearest nail station (or, if ur in dubai, the place is fully booked). Another advantage is that it needs zero time to dry, and to me, that kinda eliminates alotta hazards (lambskin related).

But its a do it urself kit kinda thing, and the finishing isn't perfect. Maybe it works better with a solid shade.

Recession Luxury:

In a glum economy, the fashion industry is being hit hard and luxury executives are faced with the dilemma of cutting costs or ignoring the crunch.

Chanel's couture show had no pearls or "bling" it was all about.. PAPER! Yes, from white origami head dresses to cutout flowers adorning walls and tables.. everything was white.. even the dresses, which were simple and very "real" emphasizing their exquisite cuts. "We are entering a phase of reality fashion." said Lagerfeld.

The house of Dior, on the other hand, went with elaborate lace and the usual Galliano extravagance saying : "It's our job to make people dream, and to provide the value in quality, cut, and imagination."

Elie Saab said he won't tone down his looks in any way either because of the recession. “Haute couture does not have boundaries — it is about making the client dream and it’s about art and creation.”

Risky business at risky times indeed.

While Karl's spin on the credit crunch was very creative.. and fascinating (as always!) I like how Dior did not surrender its identity to the economical crisis.. Its kinda reassuring, in a time of uncertainty.

Take off ur lenses and bring on the EyeWear!

It's time to bring back les lunettes! Yet another trend of the 50's revived.. It is said that glasses have been big ever since the economic crash.. and that this "trend" is here to stay!

Eye wear trends vary, unlike the big nerdy glasses worn last year (which remained a no-no to me) This year the NY post predicts glasses trends to be:

My personal favourite is Chanel's super cute spring '09 frames with pearl detail!

So what do you think.. will specs make it to ur spring wardrobe?

More White Drapes @ SAG's!

And for those who prefer to pop out..

Christina Applegate donned an emerald green ungaro gown. I personally love the colour.

Apart from those dresses, nothing really stood out much.

The good, the bad and the ugly. And the interesting!

Today..

The good: my friend got back from paris <3 i had missed her terribly!

The bad: a misunderstanding last week lead to a tiff with my in-charge (not a good thing since we're still on not-so-good terms)

The ugly: I had the most difficult patients ever, every other patient was an emergency case and it was pretty hard to cope.

But we live, we learn and we manage.

On another note.. I'm starting to blv in art therapy, ever since i started art classes i have been complaining nonstop about how boring the process is...
But as soon as i got home today, i put on some french music, got my sketch pad and started sketching..It was bliss.

The interesting:

It snowed in RAK! ( i actually just saw this!)

"To Catch A Thief"

What a movie! Grace Kelly was a sensation in her floaty gowns and Parisian style. It was said that while shopping for the film's wardrobe in Paris grace got introduced to Hermes (which later named the kelly after her).

Humanity seems divided into two unequal parts: those whose physique, self-confidence and radiance make them invulnerable, and the vast majority of others, characterized by want, frustration, and the secret vain obsession of what they can never attain.

Is it bad luck to be superstitious?

My friends call it an evil eye or something along those lines..

I'm not really sure what it is..

Are u superstitious?

Guess who's finally OUT!

The Old Error:

For six hours, a giant Bush with a "Pinocchio" nose was the target of thousands of shoes as people in DC for the inauguration took turns throwing footwear at the likeness of the president. ( details here )

The new Era:

Michell in Isabel Toledo and choos

Jason Wu!

First couple looking very much in love as they dance to beyonce

I personally did not like the yellow dress, regardless of its symbolism of "hope", it kinda looked bulky and mm BOXY. The white off the shoulder dress looks amazing on her.. "How good looking is my wife?" was the first thing Obama said at the inauguration ball.. She did look fabulous indeed!

The Speech:

"This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed -- why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent Mall, and why a man whose father less than 60 years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath."

(that was a very touching part)

"To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West: Know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist."

(full speech Here )

Perhaps there is hope after all..

Time will only tell..

Rebellious much?

I came across another art gallery, and some pictures grabbed my attention immediately.. They were of various women, each with a tiny quote under it.. As I walked by, I found myself giggling at how cute some of those old ladies were! The concept was to capture the mischief and amusement in their lives..

Still in an Artsy mood

"Women" by Mona Ayyash

" Jumping into my second marriage"

"Stuffed boots under toilet stalls to keep people away"

"I want to take portraits of older women. While Im photographing them I will start a conversation and slowing pry into their personal lives and try to capture the young mischievous women they once were. I will unify them with one question: what is the most rebellious thing you've done?

Under each portrait I will have a quote from each woman telling their story.
I am very excited about this and I feel very confident about my new concept."

Quoted from her Blog

A very interesting concept indeed, Kudos Mona!

Walking by those shots was fascinating and touched me in so many different ways.. its like you can glimpse into those seemingly ordinary women's lives from just the one shot and quote..

So in true Ayyash style.. what is the most rebellious thing you have ever done?

Bedtime thoughts..

My friend and I were at the movies a couple of weeks ago (watching The Women, crappy movie, plus u shouldn't be pro anything american right now) anyways.. So there's a part where this lady finds out that her husband is cheating on her and she has a sob fest with her friend..

My friend then turns to me and says: how come u never do that?

I shot her a look but I knew exactly what she was talking about..

Between the four of us, we've seen it all.. And I mean Everything. The bad the ugly and the unbelievable..

But I would always stay collected, and mind u, I have been dealt my own share of shitload.

I don't know what it is, but as much as I love sharing everything with my friends, I draw the line when it comes to emotions. I do listen to them, and I try my best to pull them out of an emotional slump..

Its just that when it comes to me, I would rather deal with it alone.

Today I came across a quote that said: "Keep ur emotions under control. The parent often fails at this point."

So is it a bad thing to be in control of our emotions? Or is it a way of having some control over our lives when we hardly ever have a say in what it holds?

Just a thought..

Gnight peeps.

Barbie Turns 50!

50th anniversary Fashion Look Book

"Even at 50 Barbie shows no sign of slowing. There is not a Grey hair, a wrinkle, a surplus inch, her waist remains tiny, her legs long and slim. The former model, whose cv runs from palaeontologist to presidential candidate, is worth $3 billion a year and looks better than ever."

On another note, i saw the funniest cougar barbie clip on leno.. cannot find it online tho! (sorry about the earlier link!)
